Routine defaults

Families already have familiar ways to stay in touch.

Many parents already have a workable contact system: clear plans, adults around the child, school or venue phones, borrowed phones, location-sharing apps or the child’s existing smartphone.

Because these routines are already in place, they require no new setup, no new monthly cost and no new decision about whether the child is ready for a connected device. That makes them powerful defaults. For Watch Plan to feel necessary, parents need to see where these familiar routines become less reliable as the child becomes more independent.

Parents also rely on the child’s own smartphone, adults around the child, school or venue phones and other familiar contact points.

Behavioural job

Show where familiar routines become less reliable as the child’s independence becomes more mobile, less supervised and less predictable.
